About Trigger and The Sermon:
Trigger and The Sermon is an organ jazz quartet led by Doug "Trigger" Gaston. Gaston is a pillar in the local and national jazz community as a performer, composer, and arranger. He has been featured nationally and internationally with a diverse cross-section of musical artists, including Frank Foster, Clifford Jordan, Delfeayo Marsalis, Jerry González; rhythm and blues artists Brook Benton, Mary Wells, and Eddie Kendricks; and actor/comedian Redd Foxx.
The quartet also features Greg Millar. Greg Millar has been a mainstay guitarist on the Buffalo Jazz scene for decades having performed with nationally known ensembles such as Birthright, Multi-Jazz Dimensions, and Buffalo’s Best-Kept Secret. He has also been a featured artist with a diverse group of musicians such as trombonist Roswell Rudd, organist Charles Earland, saxophonist Bill Easley and Trumpeter Lester Bowie.
Tim Clarke has consistently been heralded by voters in the annual JazzBuffalo Poll as their favorite Trumpeter of the Year for the past six years. Since relocating from Eugene, Oregon to Buffalo, New York in 2007, Tim Clarke has become an integral part of the Western New York jazz scene, performing regularly with many of the area’s top jazz musicians and groups. Tim performs with his own ensembles – The Time Clarke Soul-Tet and The Savoy Trio, as well as, Trigger and the Sermon. A fifth-generation Oregonian, Tim attended the University of Oregon School of Music, earning the Master of Arts degree in Music Theory in 1993. During his time at the University, Tim received several jazz composition awards and commissions and was active as both a trumpet player and arranger throughout his years in Oregon.
Holding down the drum chair is Benjamin Jason Clyburn. One of the area's most versatile and talented drummers performing with a wide variety of musicians in the region.
